DESOTO - James "Jack" Henry Jackson Chancey, 93, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 at his home.
Jack was born on July 16, 1930 in Granite City to Harry and Mariam (Walker) Chancey. James married Fayetta Loyd on December 13, 1952 in Murphysboro. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2019.
Jack served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 - 1956 during the Korean War. He then worked as an inspector for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. Jack enjoyed fishing, yard work, spending time outdoors and was an exceptional Yodeler. He genuinely loved his family, friends and community. He was a longtime member of the DeSoto United Methodist Church.
James is survived by son and longtime caregiver, Jack Allen Chancey of DeSoto; daughter, Kimberly Smith of Scott City, MO; grandchildren, Toni Chancey, James Chancey, Robin Tudor, Tony Smolak, Heather Chancey, Michael Chancey, and Jennetta Porter; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fayetta Chancey; parents; sons, Stephan and Michael Chancey; and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation for Jack Chancey will be Saturday, January 6th, 2024, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Full Military Honors will be held at 4:30 pm following the visitation at the funeral home.
