CARBONDALE –James A. Seibert, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on December 6, 1942 to Albert and Lydia (Roper) Seibert in Du Quoin. He married Nina Jean Whinery on August 3, 1996 at Hot Springs, AR.
James is survived by his wife Nina, sons, Steven James (Kelly) Seibert and Andrew Seibert, grandchildren Joshua Steven Seibert and Katherine (Conrad) Seibert-Moeller, sister Margaret (Donald) Handy, brother-in-law Don (Rhonda) Whinery, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lisa Ann Crawford, and brother-in-laws Jerry Hollis and Norman Whinery.
James attended high school in Du Quoin where he was outstanding in football and earned a full scholarship to play football at SIU.
James was a teacher and coach in southeast Missouri before a long professional career at Unity Point School District as principle/assistant superintendent for over twenty years. He was of catholic faith.
He was an avid fisherman. So many days, he could be found out in the water in his boat. Gardening became a special hobby, and James enjoyed sharing the products with others. Other interests of his included going to sprint car races and harness horse races.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00am on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. John Annable and Wendell Stritzel officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
