Janet Vaessen Smith, age 68, formally of Polo, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026 at home with her family by her side.
Janet was born on May 4, 1958 in Dixon, IL to Ellwyn and Daunene (Wiedman) Vaessen.
Throughout Janet's life she was a loving compassionate person and a very good friend to many.
Janet is survived by her siblings, Kathleen Clinton, Jeffrey (Cheri) Vaessen, Patrice (George) Medina, Mark Vaessen, and Mary (Mike) Groen, many loving nieces and nephews; and daughter, Jordan Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Ryan Hammett, and niece, Laura Vaessen.
Funeral Mass for Janet will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Polo, Illinois. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Janet's name to a local animal shelter.
