It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Lee Ellis, a beloved husband, devoted Papa, Great-Papa, Brother, Friend and Proud Veteran. Jerry passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at the age of 79 years old.

Born on August 30, 1945, in Murphysboro, IL to the Late General Ellis, Ruth Justine Cripps-Ellis. Jerry was a man of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for his family. He served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Pistol Marksman Badge, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He earned the respect of his fellow service members and the gratitude of a nation. His service reflected the values he lived with everyday courage, discipline, and integrity.

After completing his military service, Jerry built a life filled with love and purpose. He was married to the love of his life, Beverly Ann Wright-Ellis for 57years. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home where family always came first. Jerry was the proud father of Timothy Wayne Ellis and Donny Gene Ellis. Jerry was also the proud papa and doting grandfather, never missing a game, recital, or opportunity to offer guidance and encouragement to his grandchildren.

Jerry was a sportsman. He loved playing ball, coaching ball to his grandkids and many others. He was an avid golfer; you could find him most afternoons at the Golf course with his best buddy Duane or Granddaughter Molly. Those who knew him will remember his kind smile, his patient wisdom, and his deep sense of duty—to his country, to his family, and to his community. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by His wife Beverly Ellis, his sons Tim (Deanne) Ellis of Anna, IL, and Donny (Jennifer) Ellis of Needville, TX. His honorary daughters, Becky Glodo and Shelly Clover-Hill; grandchildren, Geri (Brandon) Johnson of Wolf Lake, IL, Taylor (Adam) Dill of East Cape Girardeau, IL, Jake (Tori) Ellis of Wolf Lake, IL, Molly (Isaac) Pender of Jonesboro, IL, Kayleigh Ellis, Gabriel Ellis and Gwendolyn Ellis of Needville, TX, Austin (Taylor) Pender of Anna, IL, and Kristin (Justin) Moseley of Evansville, IL; Great Grand Children, Finley Dill, Luke Dill, Cole Johnson, Ellie Johnson, Lane Johnson, and Gavin Johnson. His siblings, Bill Ellis, Lorine Ellis, Steve (Trish) Ellis, Roger Ellis, and Von (Larry) Robertson, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry is also survived by his beloved dog “puppy bro” Ezekiel Moses. Jerry is preceded in death by his Father, General Ellis, and Mother Ruth Justine Ellis, and his Brother Francis “Funny” Ellis.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at Shawnee High School at 1:00 pm. Visitation is on Sunday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the high school. A private family burial is to follow with military honors.
