Jerry Robinson

CARBONDALE - Jerry Robinson, 80, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023 at his residence.

Jerry was born on August 30, 1942 in Murphysboro, IL to David Leo Robinson and Mary Ellen Robinson. Jerry married Linda O'Dell on August 2, 1969 in Carbondale.

Jerry owned and operated J&L Robinson Construction. He enjoyed work, photography, golf, following SIU sports and spending time with family and friends. Work was not just work for him, as he liked what he did as well as the people he worked with. He enjoyed going to work each day. Photography was a hobby of his and he often took pictures of the outdoors, wildlife and family. He constantly had a camera in his hand and was ready to take a picture whether you were ready for it or not! Golf was a hobby he picked up a little later in life, but he enjoyed the sport, the people he was able to do it with and being outdoors. Later in life, golf was always on T.V. every weekend and he enjoyed following it. He was also a long-time SIU season ticket holder in football and basketball and he enjoyed supporting the Salukis. However, family was by far his greatest joy in life. He always loved getting everyone together and spending time with family and friends. He would do anything for his family and especially his grandkids. He would always jump at the chance to spend time with them and you could always see the joy it brought him. Jerry will be greatly missed by many, but not forgotten by any. Love you always and forever.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda; sons, Ed (Jen) Robinson and Leo (Melissa) Robinson; brothers, Tom (Cheryl) Robinson and Kenneth Robinson; and five grandchildren, Eleni, Maddie, Rachel, Heather and Kurt Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Lee Robinson; and sister, Barbara Ellen Robinson.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 10, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Jerry's name to Kiwanis Club of Carbondale and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois.
