John "Bob" Eaton

November 14, 1926 — July 15, 2016

Carbondale – John Robert “Bob” Eaton, 89, of Carbondale, passed away at 1:10 p.m., on July 15, 2016 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.



Bob was born November 14, 1926 in Carbondale to John William and Manthus Martha (Burress) Eaton.



He married Joan Alice Bitzer on July 3, 1956 in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1996.



He had four children, three sons, Bob and wife Trina Eaton of Murphysboro, Tom and wife Evie Eaton of Orlando, FL., and Tim and wife Debra Eaton of Fruitland Park, FL.; one daughter, Klieta Eaton Bagwell of Moulton, AL.; a brother, William “Bill” and wife Norma Eaton of Herrin; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Joan.



Bob served our country from 1944 – 1946 in the Navy as a Third Class Carpenters Mate. He was a member of the University Baptist Church in Carbondale; the VFW of Carbondale #2605; Egyptian Senior Golf Association of Carbondale; Hickory Ridge Golf Course and was also a charter member of Hickory Ridge Golf Course.



A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 11:30-1:00 on Friday at the funeral home.



Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and can be made to Hickory Ridge Golf Course and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.
