CARBONDALE – Judith Cecelia Schuba, 68, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Judy was born on August 4, 1948 in Elmhurst, Illinois to John K. and Anne F. (Broesler) White. She married Thomas L. Schuba on August 27, 1977, in Lombard, Illinois. He preceded her in death on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
She is survived by her two daughters, Anne and husband Michael Kartje of Murphysboro, and Beth Townley of Brandon, Florida; four grandchildren, Michael E., Alexander and Oliver Kartje of Murphysboro and Laura Townley of Brandon, Florida; brother John and wife Carol White of Naperville, and sister Barbara and husband Joe Kellogg of Lombard; including many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Schuba, and parents. Judy worked as an executive administrative assistant for Jewel Food Stores in the Chicagoland area. She retired after 25 years in this industry in 1995. She was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale, loved by many in the parish, and proud member of the Strong Survivors Exercise and Nutrition Program for Cancer Survivors. She was an avid reader and found tremendous value in supporting animal welfare.
Visitation and a time for gathering and refreshment for Judy will be 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale in the Fellowship Hall. Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale with Father Richard Mohr. Burial will be held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery in Murphysboro.
Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Jackson County Humane Society, Carbondale Public Library, and Strong Survivors Fund through the SIU Foundation, and will be accepted at the church or funeral home.
