MURPHYSBORO - Judy Ann Akers, 74, of Murphysboro passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by her loving family.

Judy was born on August 29, 1950 in South Carolina to George and Dorothy (Flowers) Prior. Judy married Lewis Akers on June 16, 1979 in Chester, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2022.

Judy and Lewis owned and operated Jackson Printing and Publishing in Murphysboro for over 20 years. Judy also worked in data entry for Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) in the OB Department, where her meticulousness made a lasting impact. She cherished her role in supporting healthcare professionals and was known for her hard-working nature and compassion for others. She was involved in Scouting with Lewis for many years where she facilitated and directed Cub Scouts and special-needs day camps. Judy was a loving and caring person who would help anyone. She spent the last several years enjoying quality family time.

Judy is survived by her sons, Matthew, Michael; daughters, Lisa, Lori, Cassie and Sally; grandchildren, Justin, Jeffrey, Tyler, Zachary, Dakota, Trayten, Mykol, Cheyenne, Autumn, Makayla, Mariah, Ali, Samantha; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Tammy Dubbert; brothers, Tommy and Steve Prior; and many nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lewis.

As we remember Judy, let us celebrate a life well-lived, one filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends. Her spirit continues to shine brightly in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
