Karen Brooks

CARBONDALE – Karen Brooks, 75, formally of Carbondale, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Harrington, Delaware.



Karen was born on September 7, 1942 in Chicago to John and Mary (Bain) Wooten.  She married John R. Brooks on May 19, 1962 in San Antonio, Texas.    



She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Brooks of Harrington, DE; daughters, Elizabeth A. Smith of Harrington, DE and Robin N. Dail of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.



Karen was proud of her work with the N.O.W. project.  Needy Orphans of war.  Where she worked closely with a childhood friend Janet Seay.  She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University.  She was the owner of “Karen’s Cakes and Party Supplies”, a popular bakery for over 15 years in Milford, Delaware.  She was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale.    



Memorial services will be held at Meredith Funeral Home, 300 S. University Avenue; Carbondale, Illinois, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017.  Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
