Lawrence H. George

Elkville - Lawrence H. George, age 86, passed away on February 24, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Lawrence was born on February 20, 1940 in Cobden to Luther and Annie (Smith) George. Lawrence married Gail (Wright) George on January 6, 1968 in Carbondale.

Lawrence enjoyed spending his time outdoors, including fishing and rabbit hunting. Family was very important to him, and he loved their 4th of July celebrations, watching the fireworks. When he wasn't outside or with his family, Lawrence was always there to help a friend, new or old.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Gail George of Elkville, children, Gerry (Chris) Romine of Cobden, James George of Anna, Joseph George of Royalton, and James Roe of Clinton; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and brother Eddie George of Du Quoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Graveside service for Lawrence will take place at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Alto Pass Cemetery with Rev. John Annable officiating.

Memorials may be made in Lawrence's name to Residential Hospice and will be accepted at the service.
