Carbondale- Mary I. Stanley, 76, passed away at 12:49 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana with her loving family by her side

Mary was born on Saturday, September 23, 1939 in Makanda to Cecil Everett & Felma Fern (Hardy) Nance.
She married Carl L. Stanley on September 8, 1956 at the home of Pastor Hugh Stearns in Makanda. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Rick) Gurley of Carbondale and Charlotte (Elmer) Goetz of Ava; brother, Terry Nance of Michigan; three sisters, Jewell Tauber of Herrin, Peggy (Jay) Lewis of Carbondale, and Lois (Paul) Gandrimas of Carterville; four grandchildren, Kelly Futrell, Ryan Gurley, and Emilee and Joseph Goetz; and four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Lauren Futrell, Ethan Gurley, Kinnley Goetz, and one on the way. She is also survived by many wonderful cousins. Mary loved all her nieces and nephews and they will all remember her as Aunt Mary.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl; parents; two brothers, Lindell and Lowell Nance; and two special sister-in-law’s, Shirley Nance and Emma Lou Allen.
Mary was a member of the Love & Truth Church in Crainville. She worked as a cook and bus aide for Unity Point School until her retirement in 2004.
Funeral Services for Mary Stanley will be on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Bob Wynn officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hiller Cemetery.
Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Love & Truth Church in Crainville for the building fund.
