Montie L. Mezo

AVA – Montie L. Mezo, 70, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at his home.

Montie was born on January 25, 1954 to Sherman L. and Frieda J. (Reed) Mezo in Murphysboro. He married Linda LeForge on March 24, 1985 in Kentucky.

Montie is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Christina Mezo, Jessica (Matt Stein) Mezo, Monica (Phillip) Harbaugh; grandchildren, McKenzie (Jace Shell), Amara, Gavin, Kaelee and Molly; great-grandchild, Greyson; brother, Eugene (Pat) Mezo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jason Lee Mezo.

Montie served his country in the US Army as a Sergeant from 1973-1975.  He worked as a Boiler Operator at the Marion Veterans Affairs Medical Center until his retirement after 38 years of service.  Montie was a Freemason out of the Marion Masonic Lodge #89.  He loved spending time outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Montie enjoyed riding motorcycles for over fifty years.  Recently Montie took up the hobby of smoking meats.  Most of all Montie loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.   

Funeral services for Montie will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Grand Tower United Methodist Church with Bob Lonning officiating.  Burial will follow in Walker Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Friday at the church.  Masonic funeral rites will be provided by Marion Fellowship Lodge #89 at the end of the visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice.  Envelopes will be available at the Methodist Church.
