CARBONDALE - Norma “Snook” Langan, age 83, passed away on Tuesday October 7, 2025 in Belleville.
Norma was born on November 11, 1941 in De Soto, to Authanile and Lois (Grizzell) Hicks. Norma married Donald Langan on April 24, 1971 in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2002.
Norma worked for over 60 years as an x-ray technician in Carbondale. She was the best mom you can imagine and an even better “maw maw”. She knew how to laugh, and she brought joy and life to everyone she was around. Everyone who knew her has a story to tell. And we will be telling those stories for many years to come. Her real strengths, though, were in her flaws. She was way too generous to far too many people. She worked way too hard for way too many years. She bought too many people too many meals. She talked to too many strangers and treated them too much like friends. She never thought twice about helping someone who needed help no matter what it cost her. And she was electrocuted way too many times trying to fix things she didn’t really know how to fix. She loved to give gifts but was, herself, the best gift of all. Not everyone lives a life worth celebrating, but she certainly did. She made everyone’s life better because of her presence. Best of all, she knew the grace and love of Jesus and loved Him dearly. She couldn’t outgive her Savior. And because of that, her stories will never end.
Norma is survived by her sons, Michael (Kathy) Shackleton and Patrick (Nettie) Langan; grandchildren, Stephan (Malerie) Shackleton, Teal (Michael) Felton, Austin Drury, Noah, Luke, Zeke and Ellie Langan; great-grandchildren, Atlas and Indie Shackleton and Ollie Felton; sisters, Joyce Vaughn and Lynn Biggs; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Langan; parents; brothers-in-law, Bill Vaughn and Frank Biggs; and nephew, Rusty Biggs.
