CAMBRIA – Norman E. Horner, 74, of Cambria passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Norman was born on January 17, 1943 in Cairo to Delbert Joe and Josie M. (Martin) Horner. He married Verna Lee Reed on May 16, 1964 in DeSoto.
Norman is survived by his loving wife of over fifty years, Verna Horner; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Doug Berner of Elkville; grandsons, Justin and Jason Berner of Elkville; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Harriet of Waco, TX; brother-in-law, Steve Reed of DeSoto; sister-in-law, Barbara Olendorf of Yemassee, SC and father-in-law, Bob Reed of DeSoto.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Karla Jo Horner; brother, Gene Horner and parents.
Norman was a member of the First Baptist Church in DeSoto and worked for the City of Carbondale for thirty years until his retirement in 2000. He loved to sing gospel music and co-founded "The Challenger's" gospel group that performed for over 30 years.
Services for Norman will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in DeSoto with Pastor Josh Wehrmeier officiating. Burial will follow in DeSoto Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, May 11 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.
Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Meredith Funeral Home is assist the family with funeral and monument expenses.
