CARTERVILLE – Paul Mitchell Roberts, 80, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Paul was born on September 8, 1945 to Paul Laverne Roberts and Erma Geraldine “Jerry” (Mitchell) Ellet in Oceanside, CA. He married Sharon Kay Camp on September 28, 1974 in Carbondale, Illinois. They celebrated over 51 years of marriage.
Paul is survived by his wife Sharon, son Jarod Roberts, brother Rick Ellett and his wife Michelle Ellett, and sister Erma Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Erma, and stepfather Charles Ellett.
Paul served in the United States Air Force for four years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1971. Afterwards, he earned a degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University and was a certified public accountant for 46 years.
He was a lover of classic rock music, including The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and his favorite, Janis Joplin. He was an avid reader, a movie buff, an art lover, a loud sneezer, a dog person, and a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. Paul was a cancer survivor that battled the disease with bravery and an unmatched wicked sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
Paul’s funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Meredith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 11:00am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PAWS Animal Rescue in Anna and will be accepted at the funeral home.
