Prem Shankersing Advani

Prem Shankersing Advani, age 93, of The Woodlands, TX passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 surrounded by his family and friends at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, IL. 


Prem was born on October 28, 1930 in India to Shankersing and Kishni Advani. Prem married Theresa Fontenote on December 7, 1956 in Port Neches, TX.  She preceded him in death on August 11, 2012. 


Prem was born in Hyderabad Sindh Province of India. During the partition in 1947, he and his sisters fled by ship to Bombay in route to Pune. In early 1953, he immigrated to the United States where he passed through Ellis Island on his way to attend the Colorado School of Mines, where he would pursue advanced studies in Petroleum-Refining Engineering.  After graduating, he began a long, accomplished career in the chemical manufacturing industry.  Along the way, he touched the lives of and helped many people succeed at a personal and professional level.  His first job was with Texaco in Port Neches, TX. He remained with Texaco advancing to senior leadership and retired in 1993 from their corporate headquarters in Houston, TX. Prem found retirement unfulfilling and began consulting for a small chemical company for over 20 years until the age of 88. 


Prem is survived by his daughter, Nirmala Advani; son, Anil Advani and dear family friend, Arthur Lupkowski; grandchildren, Lauren and Kevin; sister, Mithu Balram; longtime companion, Joy Nur; sister-in-law, Libby Fontenote; 7 nephews, Vinod Mirchandani, Kishore Mansukhani, Nikhil Balram, Tarun Balram, Mark Fontenote, Bruce Fontenote and Paul Fontenote; and  3 neices, Nalini Malani,  Anjuna Singh and Jaya Kalvani.


He was preceded in death by his parents Shankersing and Kishni; wife, Theresa; four sisters, Satni  Malani, Padmi Mansukhani, Leila Lakhani, and Saju Mirchandani;  four brothers, and niece Malti Desai. 


Services for Prem will be announced at a later date.


Memorials may be made in Prem’s name to For Kids’ Sake International and can be mailed to 100 E Jackson St, Ste C, Carbondale, IL 62901.
