Richard F. Stewart

CARBONDALE – Richard F. Stewart, age 87, passed away on July 23, 2019 at Manor Court of Carbondale.



He was born on July 9, 1932 in Waverly to Lee and Lucille (DeLong) Stewart. He married Venita Rae Lipe on April 17, 1954 in Carbondale and she preceded him in death on April 3, 2015.



Richard worked as a Landscape Designer at Southern Illinois University. He was a 50 year member of the Makanda Masonic Lodge #434.



He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Linda Stewart of Makanda; grandchildren, Natasha Winn, Laurel Rae Stewart and Ian Stewart; sisters, Marilyn Retzer and Elsie Sibert.



Richard was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Velinda Lee Winn, two brothers and five sisters.



Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Wes Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Lipe Cemetery, Makanda. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.



Memorials may be made to the Carmi Children’s Home or Lipe Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
