Robert "Bob" Joe Wheatley

Robert "Bob" Joe Wheatley, 72, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family in De Soto.

Bob was born May 29, 1951 in Du Quoin to Robert and Leora Jane (Tatum) Wheatley. Robert married Beverly Wyatt July 15, 2005 in Sevierville, TN.

Bob retired from E.T. Simonds where he dedicated himself to a career in quality control within the construction industry. He worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer for over 15 years serving all of Southern Illinois. Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing golf and photography. He also enjoyed spending time in the back yard with his three dogs.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Beverly Wheatley; daughter, Jenny Wheatley and husband, James Clark; step-daughter, Carrie Browell and husband, Ray; grandchildren, Harlie (Ben Gordon) Gill and their son, Tucker, Hunter Gill and Cody Lambert; mother, Jane Hance; sisters, Jane McKinney and husband, Steve and Cheryl Matthew and husband, Haifil; nieces, Sherri Eberhart and husband, Anton, Ashley Dixon, Alisha Crow and husband Garrett, Amy Lee and husband Nathan, Jamie and Jessica Wyatt; nephews, Joe McKinney and wife, Mandi, Scotty Steinmetz, Jeffrey Morris, Timothy Morris, William Wyatt and wife Jenny; sister-in-law, Lawana Barnett and husband, John; brother-in-law, Bill Wyatt and wife Becky; and along with special couples, Keith Parks and Angie James and Krissy and Nate Wenger.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wheatley; sister, Julie Steinmetz; step-son, Jason Thompson; and grandson, Charles Gill.

Funeral Services for Bob will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 6:00pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Bob's name to Hospice of Southern Illinois or any animal shelter and will be accepted at the funeral home.
