Sally Ann Hargan

Sally Ann (Russell) Hargan, 56, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026 surrounded by the love and comfort of her family in Carbondale, Illinois. A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend to many.

Born November 5, 1969 in Ft. Worth Texas to Bertha (Appel) Russell. She was the youngest of three sisters.

Sally is survived by her loving husband, Aaron Hargan, whom she married on August 27th, 1994, daughter, Chelsie (Jon) DeRossett and two grandsons, Adler and Everett DeRossett of West Frankfort. Also surviving are her sisters Laura (Tony) Maynard of Marissa, Jennifer (Dennis) Westerman of Chester, mother and father in law, Sherry and Steve Hargan of Marissa, brothers in law, Chris (Amanda) Hargan of Waterloo, Josh Hargan of Marissa, nieces and nephews, Amanda (Justin) McCormick, Ian (Maria) Steele, Sarah (Dan) Walls, Parker, Connor, Annalyn, Jude and Ellie Hargan, great nieces and nephews, Alex, Jayden and Audrey McCormick, Aidan, Ella and Lettie Steele and Arya Walls.

Preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Russell, grandparents and niece, Abigale Hargan.

Sally touched the lives of many with her love and humor. She never met a stranger. She was an Assistant Manager at Spires Wholesale for almost 20 years. She enjoyed crafting, camping, spending time with family, especially her 2 grandchildren and making everyone laugh with her big personality. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on 4:00PM on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Meredith Funeral Home, 300 S. University Avenue, Carbondale, Illinois 62901. Visitation will be from 2:00PM until the time of service on Friday.

Sally loved her pets and the family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to St. Francis CARE, a no kill animal shelter at stfrancis-care.org.
