CARBONDALE - Sandra Henry Bartelsmeyer, 65, died at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at her home. She was born Jan. 29, 1949, in Herrin, to Carlton F. and Martha Jean (Langenfeld) Rasche. She graduated from University High School in Carbondale in 1967. Sandy married Karl Bartelsmeyer in Carbondale on Aug 20, 1983. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Carbondale for more than 55 years. She served her church in several ways including, Sunday school teacher and youth sponsor. Sandy served her community as president of several organizations including; CCHS Band Boosters, Carbondale Soccer Inc, Carbondale Park District and Shawnee Quilt Guild. She was beautifully created to do good works; leading, loving, quilting, cooking, baking. She was prize winning quilter, but thought her most important job was being a mother. Her capacity to love and nurture extended beyond the sons she bore to her stepsons and others. Sandy is survived by her husband, Karl, of Carbondale; her sons, Sean Henry (Amy Dion) of Carbondale, Brian Henry of Dellwood, MO, Matthew Henry of Ferguson, MO, David Bartelsmeyer (Cynthia) of Herrin, Michael Bartelsmeyer (Pam) of Hurst and Robert Bartelsmeyer (Rebecca) of High Point NC; her grandchildren, Cameron, Mia, Connor, Grady, Tyler, Isabella, Craig, Brianna, Nicholas and Jackson; one sister, Judy (Tom) Rothrock of Noblesville, IN; and one niece Amy Day (Zach) of Anderson, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Stephen. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Carbondale, with Reverend Alan Rhein officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois, and will be accepted at Meredith Funeral Home.
