CARTERVILLE – Sandra Kay Thompson-Webster, 75, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at her home.


Sandy was born on September 11, 1947 in Carbondale to Russell E. Thompson and Mary Jane (Justice) Thompson. They preceded her in death.


In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. Elmer and Florence Justice, and Earl and Ginny Elkins; aunts Virginia Ferrell and Rosie Wisely, and uncle Robert (Pete) Peterson.


Sandy is survived by her daughter, Tara Lea (James) Snider of Johnston City, brother Stephen Douglas (Miram) Thompson of San Diego, CA, sister Deborah Lynn Thompson-Lawson of Cambria, nephew James Robert Lawson of Carterville, nieces Valari Pishek of Corning, CA, Stephani (Ian) Kurtz of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Brian David (Hannah) Julian of Cedar Rapids, IA, Scott Alan (Jesica) Julian of Marseilles, Jimmy (Heather) Snider of Lawton, OK, Hannah Snider of Louisville, KY, Jon (Alexis) Snider of Bardstown, KY, Lydia (Nick) Teckenbrock of Marion; great-grandchildren, Austin Julian, Olivia Julian, Jessa Thomas, Jerrika Snider, Judah Snider, James Snider, Vera Partney, Valora Partney, and Hudson Snider; Aunt Barbara Peterson of Goreville, close friend and sister in Christ Claudia Blackman of Carterville and many numerous cousins.


Sandy graduated from Carbondale High School and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale for one year. She lived in California for over twenty-two years, most of it in San Diego.


Sandy held many jobs during her lifetime, everything from Family Fun Restaurant, a bank in St. Louis, operator for GTE, Church Secretary in Scott’s Valley, a driver at Miguel Covenant Village to Red Cross. She was with the American Red Cross for twenty-five years, starting with the Red Cross in San Diego. She retired as the Director of Disaster Services, Military Emergency Communication and Health and Safety for Little Egypt Network of the American Red Cross in Southern Illinois in November of 2014.


Sandy was a lifelong, active member of Lakeland Baptist Church in Carbondale.


She will be remembered most for her love of the Lord and that she never met a stranger, and she wanted to help everyone.


Celebration of Sandy’s life will be at 10:30am on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Lakeland Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the church and from 10:00am until the time of service on Friday.


Memorials may be made to Lakeland Baptist Church, American Red Cross (South Central Chapter), St Francis Care Animal Shelter, or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the church.
