Terry Phelps

DESOTO - Terry Phelps, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at his home in De Soto. 

Terry was born on April 29, 1954 in Madisonville, KY to Allen and Lottie Phelps. Terry married Esther Breeden on October 6, 1990 in Carbondale. 

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Esther Phelps; sisters, Kathy Jolly, Sue (Mike) Gribble and Sandy (Steve) Williams; brothers E.A. Phelps and Tony Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Travis and Jerry Phelps; and sisters, Glenda Martin, Peggy Hicks, Henrietta Phelps and Cherrietta Woolever. 

Terry was a very compassionate man and a natural caregiver. For many years he worked caring for those with special needs. Seeing even the smallest improvement in their quality of life brought him much happiness.

In 1986  Terry dedicated his life to serve his God Jehovah. This decision brought much peace to Terry . His faith provided him comfort and hope during his illness.

Terry was dearly loved by many who will miss his wit and generous spirit.

A Memorial Service for Terry will be April 4, 2026 at 2:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Murphysboro Illinois. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Murphysboro Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
