CARBONDALE - Walter Joseph Krajewski of Carbondale, formerly of Racine, Wisconsin, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 84. Walter was born on June 10, 1940, in Duluth, Minnesota, and he spent many of his years fostering a spirit of love, family, and community.
Walter dedicated his professional life to the transportation industry, where he served as a manager, known for his unwavering commitment and problem-solving skills. His ability to fix things extended beyond the workplace; he was a true handyman at home, always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need.
Family was of paramount importance to Walter. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Nancy (Kirk) Krajewski, whom he married on 23 November 1968 and together they nurtured a warm and loving household. Walter is survived by his cherished children: son, Carey Krajewski (Roberta Christie); daughter, Sara Krajewski (Jeffery Fisher), and son, James Krajewski (Elizabeth Gillhouse). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jennifer Christie (David Brown) and Robert Krajewski; brother, Robert (Theresa) Krajewski; and brother-in-law, Robert (Maria) Kirk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Florence (Stephens) Krajewski; brothers, James and Lawrence Krajewski; sister-in-law Susan Krajewski; and daughter-in-law Michelle (Johnson) Krajewski.
Walter was also a passionate musician, often seen playing his beloved concertina or accordion. His joyful melodies brought happiness to many, and he cherished the moments spent sharing music with family and friends.
A Funeral Mass in remembrance of Walter Joseph Krajewski will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of service at the church on Thursday. Immediately following the Funeral Mass a reception and time of fellowship will be in Xavier Hall. His family invites all who knew him to join in celebrating his remarkable life and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice, honoring the spirit of family and community that Walter cherished so dearly.
Walter's loving spirit and unwavering dedication to his family and friends will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
