Bettie, TX – Ward Jr. Sutton, age 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2024. He is now reunited with his loving wife, Marge; who he had missed dearly for the past five years.

   He was born in Carbondale, Illinois on April 29, 1937 to Ward and Dorothy Sutton and was a graduate of the 1955 Class of Carbondale Community High School. Previously Ward was employed by Good Luck Glove in Carbondale, Jomac Glove in Murphysboro, and Old Ben Coal Mine in Benton.

   He was married to his high school sweetheart, Marjorie (Stearns) Sutton from 1954 to 2019. This union was blessed with four children, 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Their children are Dotty (Darrell) Potter of Hudsonville, Michigan; Susan (Gary) Eggemeyer of Carbondale; Judy (Art) Tordini of Port Angeles, Washington; and Ward (Leslie) Sutton of Bettie, Texas. Grandchildren are Doug (Melissa) Towner; Dan (Lillian) Towner; Demy (Kyle) Baker; J.D. (Betsy) Piland; Adam (Jessi) Kerber; A.J. (Stephanie) Tordini; Lisa (Javier) Becerra; Jeremy (Nicole) Sutton; Rylee and Landry Davidson; and Colt Sutton. Great-grandchildren are Violet and Ellie Towner; Eliyanah and Torin Towner; Jack Marti; Joel Baker; Aly Piland; Evan Frye; Charley, Emmy and Baby Girl Kerber (November 2024); Ady and Andrew Tordini; Camryn, Cruz, Carlee and Caroline Becerra; Isabelle, Skylar and Remington Sutton.

   Ward is survived by his sister, Mary (Dale) Downen of Eureka, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Dorothy Sutton, his wife, Marge Sutton, and his sisters, Betty (James) Glover; Shirley Sutton; and Doris Summers.

   “Brother Ward” was ordained a deacon at Walnut Street Baptist Church, Carbondale, in 1977. He was a faithful member and devoted deacon of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Gilmer, Texas since 2014.

   Graveside Services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro.  

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1437, Gilmer, TX 75644.
